About Senchi Ferry

  • The village of Senchi Ferry has a population of about 2,000 people.
  • There are 3 elementary schools, a preschool, and a middle school in the village.
  • About 95% of the children attend school.
  • Only 20% of students will make it to high school because of the lack of educational resources.
  • English is taught in an immersion format as soon as they begin school.
  • The average classroom has 30-40 students with 2-3 sharing a desk.
  • A classroom consists of: wooden desks, a blackboard, notebooks and pencils.  There are no books.
  • The average income for a family in this village is $50/month.
  • The building of this library will greatly improve the education of the children in this village. Education is highly valued and the community knows that it is the key to improving the lives of future generations. Bringing books to the people of Senchi Ferry will help end the reading famine and give them hope for a brighter future.
